This is the prologue that was to go with the current version of the novel. Alexa’s suicide was to set a dark tone for events to come. I ended up eliminating it because I was concerned that it was giving away too much about what was to happen later in the book. I was still able to set the tone by putting a half-page excerpt before the first chapter.
